|| Rather than making this page look like your
typical CV, I prefer just to tell you a bit about
myself in a less formal manner. You will not only
learn about the relevant professional details of
my life that way, but also get a feeling for the
kind of person you'd be dealing with.
I was born in the Netherlands 53 years ago and
started speaking Dutch ten months later. When I
was six, I began to learn both the English and
German language, culminating in a baccalaureate
certificate for all three languages and the major
I liked languages, in fact I also learned French, Italian
and a bit of Polish and Bulgarian at some point in my
life, but at the time I was absolutely obsessed with
computers. It was the time of Atari's and Commodore's, and
the first Apple's and IBM's started appearing. I couldn't
help myself. I just had to jump on that train.
|| I studied IT, but afterwards I just didn't feel
like working in that particular field. I had
developed a burning interest in psychology and
philosophy, not academically, but on a very
personal level. I followed that call and I've been
travelling, living and working in different
countries of the world ever since. I lived in
India, Italy, Poland and Germany until I finally
settled in Scotland.
I have worked as a travel agent, bartender, shipping agent
and airline manager. I have sold computers and I have
milked cows. I founded and created an online search portal
and sold it again. And
last, but not
least in this context, I have been a freelance translator for 10 years now.
|| All these different experiences have made me
into who I am today. I have specialized in a small
number of fields, and I possess a wealth of
knowledge about a wide variety of subjects. I have
been actively using all these languages I've
learned, not only on a professional, but also on a
very personal level.
Even now, there are so many different things I'm
interested in, but I found that I just love to
work with language. Being a freelance translator
enables me to work flexible hours, and allows me
to spend more time in relaxation.
| I have always appreciated the value
of mixing the professional with the personal. Why
should it be business OR pleasure? I'd like to
